Teaching the Minds, Touching the Hearts

Preschool

All-Day Kindergarten, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Of course, everything your child needs to know is learned in St. Martin’s Kindergarten program!

Our experienced and degreed teachers strongly emphasize phonics, reading readiness, handwriting, language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies in our Kindergarten program. Equal emphasis is placed on the development of self confidence, self esteem, independent thinking, good listening skills, and good work habits. We strive to meet the special needs of each child through creative and fun small and large group activities. Children are encouraged to express themselves through music, art and free choice activities.

Reading and math skills are taught in small groups of six or seven children. Our excellent new language program stresses letter recognition, letter sounds, introduction to sight words, journals, reading readiness skills, correct letter formation, handwriting, listening skills and following directions. Our math program utilizes the University of Chicago School Mathematics Project (UCSMP) Everyday Mathematics curriculum. In a spiraling curriculum covering six content strands, students investigate mathematical ideas in greater depth each year meeting all skill levels and abilities. This hands-on math stresses number recognition, writing numbers, number correspondence, beginning addition and subtraction, and problem solving.
